The New Mexico Doula Association (NMDA) is growing, evolving, and taking bold steps to create lasting change for families and doulas across the state. Thanks to supporters like you, we’ve built a strong foundation of community-based, culturally humble care, and today we are at the forefront of a historic moment for reproductive justice and health equity in New Mexico.

We need your continued support now and ongoing as we work to:

1. Expand Access to Doula Care through Medicaid: Starting February 2025, doulas will be able to enroll as Medicaid providers for the first time in New Mexico. This means thousands of families on Medicaid will have access to affordable, life-saving doula care. Your contribution will help us ensure that doulas are informed and supported in the enrollment process, clients can find doulas, and medical providers see doulas as essential members of the care team.
2. Advocate for the Doula Bill in the 2025 Legislative Session: NMDA is leading the way to pass a groundbreaking bill that will secure Medicaid coverage for doula care and (bring doulas into our healthcare system.) This bill is a transformative step forward for health equity in New Mexico, (particularly for Black, Indigenous, and families of color who face systemic barriers to quality care often resulting in disproportionately poor outcomes). Your donation supports our legislative advocacy efforts, including mobilizing doulas and community members to make their voices heard.
3. Sustain Our Growing Team: In 2024, NMDA transitioned to a co-directorship model, redistributing leadership and decision-making across three directors. This growth allows us to better serve our communities, lead legislative and Medicaid implementation efforts, and launch new initiatives.Your gift supports equitable leadership, helps meet our growing staffing needs, and ensures we can sustain the dedicated team driving this critical work forward.
